I was at a Best Buy store today and they are now running this promo: essentially paying $5 for any DVD toward a Blu-ray purchase. Sounds interesting. I may actually give it a try and trade in a few of my old DVDs.

Here are the details of this promotion:

DVD Upgrade Details:
Bring in your original DVD (no burned copies accepted) with the original case to Customer Service and receive a $5-off coupon valid on any Blu-ray movie priced $9.99 or more. See a Customer Specialist for more details about the Upgrade & Save promotion. Limit 5 coupons per trip. A recycling receipt must accompany the coupon at time of redemption. Once you have received your coupon, if you do not find a Blu-ray movie, you are unable to get your turned-in DVD back. Not valid with any other discount or package. Limit one coupon per Blu-ray purchase. Markdowns taken from original or promotional price. Your original DVD must have been commercially packed and with the original case. Adult content DVDs not accepted. Not valid with any other offer. Valid on in-stock Blu-ray movies only. No cash value. Offer valid through 5/11/13.

So it would be advised to look over the blu-ray movies first to see if you want any they have.

Best Buy has run this promotion several times. I turned in a few DVD's myself and ended up buying some choice Blu-rays I was interested in. And there have been a couple of times I couldn't find something I wanted, so I just saved the coupon and receipt they gave me and went back maybe a week later to look again. They usually call this promotion, Upgrade And Save and I like it. In fact, they're about due to run another one. Been a couple of months since the last one.
