DVR 530 front display VERY dim

The front display on my new DVR 530 is VERY dim.

It's so dim that it's almost unreadable in a normally lighted room.

I've tried the setup option for display brightness but that didn't help (the dim setting turns off the display completely).

I mentioned it to the fellow who was authorizing me and he said that it isn't as bright as the DSR 505.

Is this super-dim display normal?

You may have a bum unit. The display on my 530 (second one) is easily viewable under daylight conditions.
