have hd dvr.
question is how with directv can you record whole program of a show if it goes longer then execpt... my example is nascar racing
go into channel lineup hit red button to record show but it stops recordering at the end of its time. not allowing for race to run longer then execpt...
like race last night recording stopped with just 8 laps to go.
thanks
allen

You have to add the next program in the guide to be recorded. There is no way that they know ahead of time the the "live" program will over run the schulded time.

Or you can "pad" a recording by clicking on it in the guide and then set it to end 30 minutes later or whatever amount of time that you want.

You can do it manually for each sporting event or simply set every recording to start a bit early & have it stop recording up to 3 hours later than scheduled. You can run into more conflicts than normal when trying to record two programs at the same time & trying for a third directly after the first two are supposed to end but this would usually be the exception & not the rule.

Try Menu>Manage Recordings>Rec. Defaults>

& then change your start & stop times to however much padding you desire.....this will cover every recording you make in the future.
