Eastern Arc + 129?

I'm a current HD Absolute customer in Kansas City, which means I get HD locals from 129. Fast forward to February of next year, and assume I can talk a rep into qualifying me for Eastern Arc equipment, will it be technically possible to put up an EA dish at the 61.5-77 arc and add 129 as a wing dish by going into the EA LNB?

Don't think so

Unless they move KC from 129 to 61.5 you won't be able to get your locals. The reason is the VIP units are set up to use 129 before 61.5. So if both are there the unit just won't see 61.5 as usable for you. Now if there is a shift in where they load the stations then the EA could be used for you then. Basically at present to see 61.5 when you have a 1000 or 1000.2 w/ a wing dish the 129 LNBF has to be cover w/ foil to block out the signal from that bird.

Ummm, somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but if a channel is only available on one satellite, then I believe the switch and receiver will pull that channel in just fine. The conflict between the satellites only occurs if the channel is on both satellites. Locals generally are only on one.

That would be true

Sorry about that that is correct. Thing is though for most of the channels the system is still going to be picking up 129 over 61.5.

You won't need EA. There may be announced WA by that time. Anyway, I think it's been discussed extensively elsewhere in the forum that there is very little rhyme or reason to whether 129 or 61.5 gets used. I don't think they would knowingly set you up with both.

They may move your locals. Or another sat gets leased. Or whatever. Let's see how EA turns out first, before making any firm plans.

The attractive thing for me with EA is that I have severe LOS issues with the Western Arc. You should see my physical topology. I have NO such issues over my Southeastern skies. I'm also attracted to the MP4-only programming, as noted in the uplink reports. If KC locals get added to EA, I'll be the first in line for a current customer conversion...even if they don't, I'll be in line.

eastern arc question

AS a "moved" user for chicago channels from wisconsin, will I be able to still get the CBS,ABC,NBC, and WGN on my 129 dish or will I be need to change my 129 position to 61. I have 3 seperate dishs at this time one each for 110, 119 and 129
I will appreciate any info anyone can provide.

thanks Jerryd

I think the Chicago locals will stay on both sats for the time being. There are just too many people in that DMA with 1000.2 dishes looking at 129 for them to yank the locals from 129 and force migration to 61.5.
