Echostar prepares potential bankruptcy filing

Not sure about that...WOR lost their tv license..only thing bankruptcy did was to delay...not the same situation but similar tactics
Right, not so sure that he can hang onto bandwidth indefinitely courtesy of bankruptcy. I would bet the auction terms carried provision not to be able to hang onto it through BK if failing to meet utilization requirements. Way I view it, they've been giving him a break already, and now, at the least, he has to "bend the knee" to the trumpist gov't in manner of other supplicants such as Amazon, CBS, law firms, etc.

el chepo charlie has always been a spectrum whore!!!

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr is urging EchoStar to pursue a sale of AWS-4 spectrum holdings as part of his "best and final" offer to EchoStar Chairman Charlie Ergen, Bloomberg reported Wednesday. It's not clear if that offer calls for EchoStar to sell all or some of its AWS-4 holdings.

JFC! Its not! You tell me what the hell it is!
The government, the FCC is telling an American company how to run its god damn business! ITS BS!

Is the sky not blue were you live?!
I am not going to do a rebuttal, because it would make this even more political, keep it to the pit, where I will gladly do so.

As the original owner of the spectrum, the Government would have rights to how it is used. The issue is, that is already in the paper work. Echostar/Dish needed to expand mobile service out to x% of the people by certain deadlines. Based on the comments from the FCC, they are making pleas to Ergen, not enforcing violations Ergen made on the agreement signed onto by buying the spectrum. The FCC has no case here to intercede unless Dish/Echostar misses a deadline.

What confuses me is that I was under the impression Dish/Echostar can't sell the spectrum they bought the rights to. And the FCC is saying Dish/Echostar should sell spectrum. This whole thing reeks of meddling by the FCC for the benefit of another company.

This goes back to the early 90s, and my memory isnt the best. They were selling off spectrum and we could buy it.
I dont remember the company, but the minimum you could buy/invest was like $10 to $12K to invest. I came very close to buying $25k, to add to my portfolio.
And the cell companies would pay you to use what spectrum you owned.
Thats why I was bit confused when Charlie set up that shell company to win the lottery to get what he has now.

Is Dish actually using the spectrum?.. if not...there is a law against buying spectrum just to sell it for profit ( instead of actually using it and selling it as part of a network)
