EchoStar to Acquire Sling Media

I just want to share my system because it rely's heavily on a sling box pro, in a legit way. I've got vip211 (come on down new dvr firmware) that is connected to the main HD Panasonic rear projection through hdmi port to dvi input plus extra audio cable. The vip also has component output which does a 50 foot run to my bedroom's ViewSonic that has great visibality even from tight angles. The 211 has no rf remote, but my slingbox pro sits there (with a hard ethernet connection) and it ir sensor pointed to the 211. The Slingbox software is installed on my laptop which has an onscreen remote.

The only other thing I want to do at my grandmother's house is install a basic sling box for her standard cable so I can tune it to the shows she likes to watch and make sure she never sees Faux News. Like has been said, no monthly fees, makes it easy to justify spending $190 for the slingbox pro with hd add on. The plain coax ones are something like $70.

Thanks for editing your numbers... I was about to say... Pro is worth it's cost.

It isn't free.. it is only free of a monthly fee.

I don't understand that statement. Anyone has been able to download for free the software and use it without ever paying anything. This includes all upgrades.

Yeah.... currently I use the Slingfinder but if they start charging a fee I'll have to go direct IP... not a big deal, I am tech savy and have a static IP, but what will the regular guy do when Slingfinder wants him to pony up?

I love Slingboxes but Slingcatcher does nothing for me. I have a media center PC, Xbox360, and other devices that push and shove my PC media to and fro the TV.. but I don't want it there anyway. With hundreds of DVDs and hundreds of channels, I don't need the funny Youtube clips or porno quickfix clips to show up on my TV with Slingcatcher. For some, this may be good, but not for me.

I really want to be able to hook the Slingcatcher directly to my TV at work . I'm in a commercial building and the landlord won't let me put a dish and TWC wants to charge me commercial rates like I was a friggin sports bar (almost $100 for basic!).

Well, your office isn't a private residence, so even if you went with a Dish, they would still charge you the commercial rate.
