Epix & Dish in Talks

Is this pronounced "E-Pix" with a long E, or "EP-ix", short E, like "epics"??? Just curious, as I know they are pushing their online site as well.

Not that I would go on that alone, but they are mainly concentrating on television. I think that means epics as in a truly long movies as opposed to e-pix.

Epix in talks with Echostar/Dish Network.

Greenberg declined to comment on which companies Epix was speaking with. However, sources with knowledge of the situation, who declined to be identified because talks were ongoing, have said Epix is in advanced discussions with EchoStar Corp's (SATS.O) Dish Network, which reaches more than 13 million satellite television households.

Could that be one of the new HD channels they are testing that was uplinked yesterday? There is video on those test channels, however since its scrambled we have no way of knowing what it is.

Supposedly, Epix is going to have its entire movie catalog available online for subscribers. If I'm Dish, and I have a new flagship box coming out soon with a web tuner, why don't I push to pick up Epix and capitalize on the marketing of being able to offer a 15,000 movie catalog through the 922? It sure beats the heck out of what normal premium channels offer, and I really feel like On Demand is one area where satellite has missed the boat versus cable.

But will it be worth $9.99 a month, I guess time will tell.

Everything I've read indicated that it would not be sold separately. It's supposed to be sold as part of a tier. I would imagine FIOS is putting it in their movie tier, but I'm not sure.

Remember, this is a totally different business model than any other premium. The majority of the programming is, essentially, free to the channel. They are cutting out the middleman (Showtime.)

EDIT- Apparently I'm wrong! And I think they are going to have trouble selling this...

It will be especially hard to sell on FIOS, where you can get ALL the Showtime/TMC/Flix/Sundance/IFC/Starz/Encore/Plex channels- 45 of them- for $14.99

Whoa...look at this

FiOS TV Prices Epix At $9.99 - 2009-10-29 18:27:55 EDT | Multichannel News

It says that FIOS is paying EPIX $1 per BASIC subscriber. So they need to hit 10% penetration to break even. It will be interesting to see how long this pricing model lasts. If they stick to their guns on the $9.99 and can't attract subscribers, they will just be flushing money. I think they will eventually have to cut the price or make it a basic channel. Does FIOS do annual increases?

I just got my EPIX invite code. I am in and there is nothing there to watch but celebrity interviews at this point, everything else is coming soon.

And unless something changes seeing the launch of the new channel on Dish seems slim now, as their website only mentions FiOS all over it and it would be a lot of work to change it in this short time before the channel takes air.

Any word If Uverse might see Epix?

Who knows dish might add it at a later time.

They never give us what we want when we want it.

Charlie might just say that channel is not needed.. He might give us a nice treat though.
More shopping channels in HD!

I just got my invite code as well and I'm able to watch "Iron Man", haven't looked around too much yet to see what all else is available, though.
