Ernie Harwell, a wonderful person, a genuine gentlemen, one of a select few that would be called a legendary voice in sports broadcasting. A void that will never be replaced.

I went to the funeral twice today.

I went before I went to work, and I just had to go again this evening. I passed the Casket at exactly midnight tonight as they where just wrapping things up.

The Tigers did everything first class all the way, and treated everything with respect!

I was fortunate to have been able to pay my respects to Mr. Harwell yesterday. Ernie provided me with so many special memories over the years. As a youth, I listed to Ernie on the radio almost every night...even when I supposed to be sleeping. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Harwell a handful of times while growing up, and he always greeted me warmly - like I could be his own grandson.

This is truly the end of an era in the Detroit area. RIP to an ledendary sports announcer and one helluva nice man.

Today on the 97.1 (Tigers Radio station) they played the last game he announced...Wow so simple, yet great at what he did so much better then the screaming and yelling that many feel they have to do today.

Agreed...the flag certainly didn't measure up to the rest of the tribute.

When the late, great Johnny Most retired, the Celtics encased his microphone "high above courtside" at the Boston Garden (it is still there at the "new" Garden).

Tigers are wearing patches on their jerseys (home and road) for the rest of the season too.

Also the press box was renamed The Ernie Harwell Media Center when he retired. and his name's been on the Tigers Wall of Fame at Comerica since day 1. So no shortage of tributes.

That Statue is nice, they have Statues like that around the stadium, with some of the Tiger Greats, They also have it with the Joe, the hockey ones have some great detail
