I'm thinking of upgrading to the HD Package with the Everything Package. I think I remember someone saying if you have the Everything package it reduces cost of the HD package. Anyone experiencing this?

Scott

Hmmm, never heard of that. I know that you will save when it comes to the DVR fees because if you have the Everything pac the DVR fees are waived.

I have the AEP. Covers DVR fees, nothing else. When you sign up for HD, you will get a $10.00 discount/credit for 6 mos.
BTW, will be dropping AEP after three months. Just not worth it IMHO.

It used to give you a $5.00 discount on the hd pack- before last years' annual price increase. This increase included adding $5.00 back in for the hd pack and raising the price of AEP by $5.00 giving you a $10.00 increase last spring. Now DISH doesn't reward you for having the hd pack, but it is worth it to have AEP just to escape the dvr fees. I have 3 hd dvrs so this pack is the one I use. Saves me over $17.94 a month by having the AEP .

HBO has nothing compelling these days. Starz is just mediocre and Showtime is the pits except for Dexter. I rent movies I want to see when they come out, so IF and when they ever make it to the movie channels, I've already seen them. Not into sports outside what you can get from the networks. Other additional channels like Sleuth, Hallmark Movie, Fox Movie, etc. I just never watch. And when and if you get HD, you, if like me, tend not to watch anything that isn't. So, I'm going back to where I started, A200 DVR advantage which will cover my one DVR (622) fee and locals. Over a year, I just cannot forsee the value of spending $480.00 for something I will only watch occasionally.

I have AT250+3 premiums. I'm dumping Cinemax and HBO, but keeping Showtime. I disagree with you on Showtime. "Weeds," "Californication" and "The Tudors" are wonderful. I also watch "Brotherhood" and (gone way downhill) "The L Word".

I don't want to give up NatGeo or Style (even though it's SD), so I'm keeping AT250. I take it most people here don't have AT250. That's why they complained about A&E showing a lot of upconverted SD and no HD but left NatGeo alone. A&E's response--stretch-o-vision! Hey, it worked for TNT. I wish they would just put graphic side bars like Kung Fu and ESPN HD do for 4:3 content.

We're in full agreement on HBO.

AEP? Nope. I lack Starz and (and I think) NBA for like $5 more per month. However, I don't want it.

I agree with just about everything you said.:D

I dropped all my premiums now that Weeds, Californication and CYE are done. All the movies I already seen via my HD video Players. And I can't stand watching films in SD anymore.

I hear what you all saying that most of the movie channels being dull, boring, etc. It is to bad you can't just buy the HD channels of the movie channels and dump the rest. I had the Everything Pak and HD package at the first of the year last year but dropped them just before summer because of personal funds issues. Somehow, I added up the cost again and it seems higher now for the HD package.

My problem with Dish's HD package is like to have TNTHD, Food TV, My locals in HD (but I do most of those with OTA), etc . but the voom channels are kinda crappy. Why are they including SciFi HD like Direct TV has, etc? They repeat so much stuff it's a waste of money. I looked at Comcast which is a extra 5.00 per month (mostly worthless programming) and Direct TV that is 9.99 per month. Why do I have pay 29.00?

I guess the bigger question in my head is in 2008 (so I have heard), all the stations (or does that only apply to the OTA stations) need to switch to HD. So, at the point, HD will not be a oddity but a norm, they can't keep charging a premium for HD. 9.99 would have been plenty for it all.

I don't know, just thinking out loud.

All channels are not switching to HD (yet) in 2008. They are just switching from analog signals to digital.

Scott, it's that OTA channels have to switch to DIGITAL transmission from old style analog. That does NOT mean the channels will also be HD. They may or may not be broadcast in HD, as digital transmission can be SD as well. Also, it's the first quarter of 2009 where it happens.

Ok, switching to Digital. But, even so, why should have to pay more for it.

Another thought, most of the stuff isn't even HD, it's all upconverted.

I agree, but my problem isn't HD or SD via digital, it having to pay the price for it monthly plus having to have a digital TV, projector, etc.

So, I called dish a little bit ago asking about getting HD turned back without the Voom channels. They want $20.00 per month for it. It just doesn't seem worth the $20 or $240 per year. The HD watch now is mostly OTA but I what I really want is SciFi HD, TNT HD, basically the normal channels.... but I could careless about the voom packages, etc.

I have an HD DVR asn was carrying HBO and Starz which we watch. Didh offered me the AEP through the end of the year for 48.00 a month more. I watched some episodes of Californication on Showime but not one movie. Cinemax had very little except some old soft core porn---and some home grown soft core of more recent vintage.

After 2 months i decided that it was not worth the extra $8.00

It all comes down to whether you watch the stuff. If not it is not worth anything.

Are you saying you already had Starz and HBO, then signed up for AEP for $48.00 on top of what you were already paying?? Hopefully, not!!
