I just had DirecTV installed and am curious about the external vs internal drives. If I have stuff on my internal drive, can I access it as well as the stuff on an external drive? Also, what's the max external drive? 3TB drives aren't a heckuva lot more than 2TB. This is an HR24, latest model, HD DVR.

to Satelliteguys!If you use an external drive, the internal is temporarily disabled, until you disconnect the external. I think 2TB is the largest drive that is supported for now.
To build a 3TB external (that isn't supported as Chip indicates), it will cost you around $200 complete.
2TB drives can be had for around $100 complete. How is that not a big difference?
