FIFA World Cup of Horrors

Haven't heard of any. You'd think it'd be Scotch...

Apparently they'll settle for Sam Adams

US won 2-0 over Australia. The problem is, Australia were in charge in the second half. US performs like that against a good country, they'll get flattened. 3 pts, move on to knockout round, but a tale of caution with that victory. They didn't look anything like they did against Paraguay. Looks like they are guaranteed a third place team for the first knockout round. As a note, winning one knockout round game this time around means nothing, much like progressing out of the group stage. US needs at least two wins for this to be an awesome tournament.

Morocco scores early and get 3 points. They and Brazil look to top their group.

Today looks like a bunch of snoozers.

A quadruple of tie v tie. A win for any of these teams can mean a very strong chance at the knockout round (even if it weren't 32 teams in in it). Lots of drama with Spain, Uruguay, and Belgium needing to commit to executing on the pitch. Saudi Arabia's keeper was remarkable against Uruguay. Keeps doing that and Saudi Arabia might have a real shot at promoting beyond the Group Stage.

Norway keep moving forward. 6 pts now. France beat Iraq after two hour half-time delay due to weather.

Some incredible matches and underdog upsets.
Feeling a bit like the expanded college football playoffs, where the games are providing a lot more drama than anticipated.

Norway's Haaland is insane. He is a bum when playing for City, but otherwise, a remarkable talent that puts so much on the pitch.

Brazil's loss will likely lead to some heads rolling, like Ancellotti's as to why they played a counterattack style of football.

What BS! Just shows you how deep the corruption in FIFA goes.

From: Why FIFA's Balogun red card suspension after Trump call is so controversial

"According to the Belgian football association, which has said it might challenge the FIFA ruling, the football body violated a series of its own rules.

"The football body, in justifying its decision, has cited Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, which allows it to suspend the enforcement of a previously imposed disciplinary sanction.

"But the RBFA has pointed to Article 66.4 of the code, which makes a one-match ban automatic after a player receives a red card. It also cited Article 10.5 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Competition Regulations, which states: "If a player or team official is sent off as a result of a direct or indirect red card [second caution], they will automatically be suspended from their team's subsequent match. In addition, further sanctions may be imposed."

"FIFA World Cup 2026 Circular No 16 also confirms a one-match automatic suspension following a red card."

And Ronaldo did serve the next game ban, it was his additional two game suspension that was deferred.

One heck of a 3rd Place match! Too bad for the right half of the stadium as all the scoring action is happening at the left hand goal. Crazy!

The Final couldn't have been more one-sided. Argentina mustered nearly no offensive possession until the 108th minute. And they came real close to drawing even. With how one-sided the game was, Argentina winning via penalties would have been a travesty.
