Just downloaded to my notebook, seems a little quicker...

downloaded last night and am seeing quicker loading.

I running wifi with an older router with a wireless IP not really much slower than the fiber fed line at work...

Been running it for a while. It has also been a RC for a few days as well. In the help section of FF, click on the "About Firefox" and it will download the latest release

If you want it to run faster, disable Test Pilot 1.1 in the Extensions

How does the speed compare with latest version of Chrome?

Chrome will be a bit faster because it is so lean but that obviously has its costs.

BTW I hope you using the RC 1 not an actual beta. The RC is supposedly quite close to the final release that will come out next week. I used to be into the nightly builds of FF but at some point I tired of erratic behavior and instability so I stepped away from the cutting edge.
