For those who would like to Track AMC14

Actually right now according to those stats on the tracking page, the sat is looking pretty good right now

Altitude is almost perfect, however it is still moving.
Location could be right because they said they would put it into a testing orbit first, anyone remember that location?

Any thoughts?

Unless something has changed, they haven't even started to change its orbit from the one it has had ever since it seperated from the lower stages.

Well, there is a little bit of change in apogee/perigee/inclination in the last 10 days.

I wonder if the change is man made, or if gravity/nature is the cause???

If this is correct it would seem that the apogee is much lower in the last 6 days.

Comments: AMERICOM-14 (AMC-14) is a BSS satellite featuring many noteworthy innovations, including an active phased array (APA) payload consisting of a receive mode APA antenna, and the highest levels of redundancy on core components such as amplifiers, receivers, commanding beam and computer control systems. Developed primarily by Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems, the APA will be a key satellite technology for future missions. AMC-14 will provide AMERICOM2Home® services in the United States for EchoStar Communications' DISH Network.

Thats 9000 km lower than on3/31!

Still the same f'd up orbit it's been in for the last couple weeks

I'd like to nominate this thread as being populated by some of the stupidest people in the world. But it is a fun read. Just wish there would be some really good news instead of speculation.

I don't think "stupid" it the right word - "ignorant", perhaps, and that would include me. I knew absolutely nothing about satellite orbits when I started reading this thread, and now I know a bit more than nothing. No expert, by any means, but there have been contributions by a few knowledgeable types participating on the thread that have been very helpful to me.

I agree that it is about time for some actual new orbit data that will show real progress is being made.

No progress based on the latest data....If you want to picture it on a map look here

AMC-14 - Orbit Data

Just to show how screwed up it is....If it ever gets into the right position

The "View from above orbital plane" will be a perfect circle with the earth exactly in the center, and the north pole pointing straight out at you.

The "View from above satellite" will be looking straight down on the northern tip of Brazil (on the equator...and will never move from that perspective), instead of this constantly motion at a 49 deg angle

The "Ground Track" will be a single dot that is on the equator over brazil..not some snack slithering across the world

Time to sing a song..

Ground control to Major Tom
Ground control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills
And put your helmets on

Ground control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check ignition, and may God's love be with you

This is ground control to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know
Whose shirt you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule
If you dare

This is Major Tom to ground control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in the most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do.

Though I'm past 100,000 miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much;
She knows

Ground control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead
There's something wrong
Can you hear me Major Tom (x3)

Can you hear...

I am sitting in a tin can
Far above the moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

Yea this is psmith trying to stir the pot.. We have allready choked this up to be bogus. Psmith, come back with the sources where ses americom said that the satellite would be a total loss as stated in the article. There is no need to post this in mutlitple places when its allready being talked about in another thread!

And now you should tell us - all your skeptics was so childish and biased. :D
