Former Bruins announcer Fred Cusick passes away

Fred Cusick, at 90; the velvety voice of the Bruins for decades - The Boston Globe


And there goes another part of my childhood.

Fred Cusick is THE voice that made me a hockey fan.

The one thing I keep hearing from people paying tribute to Fred is, "he made it about the game and not himself".............that was soooooo true.

Actually, he was a part of my childhood in Louisiana as a kid in the early 70's. No hockey down there so I pulled for the team I saw on TV the most, which was the Bruins. Had a poster of Derek Sanderson on my wall, Bruin puck I ordered through the mail, etc. I also had a 45rpm (vinyl record for all you young pups) about the Boston Bruins. On one side was a song about Bobby Orr and on the other clips of Fred announcing Orr's greatest plays.
