Free DISH Question

I have seen a lot of DISH 500 era receivers around at yard sales and such for $5-10.
I have several era dishes and LNB's (LNBF's) collected over the years.
When I canceled programming, I noticed that I was still able to get the free channels that were offered (shopping, setup and use), plus the occasional free HBO or something like that for the weekend.

Before you assume, I am not asking to hack or anything like that. I have no interest in stealing anything.

Just wondering if I was able to get one of these old receivers with the card in it, and the right dish/LNB(F) combo, and DISH was having Cinemax free for a weekend, could one be able to watch it in this manner?

Thanks in advance!!

A recently deactivated receiver MAY still receive SOME programming (including free previews) for a short time.
Any receiver you find at a yard sale or flea market will have been idle for so long, you won't get any more than NASA and the likes.
