Free Upgrade to a 622?

I Went For It!

Got the call last night. I own my 942 and as of yet do not have hd locals. 199.99 up front to be credited upon retun of 942. Install date 6/12/06. Install FREE, new dish FREE, all necessary switches cables & stuff FREE. $6.00 per month increase. Did not have to increase programming. They said local HD would be coming soon to Fresno. I asked if that is marketing BS or the truth. He said they are rolling out from largest to smallest markets and have rolled out 75 markets so far. I figure Fresno can't be too far off.

More like 24 markets so far . Here is a list of current and planned HD-LIL for this year. I don't see Fresno on the list.

Sure enough...got the call this afternoon. $199 upfront, $200 credit for my leased 942. Includes the Dish 1000 install. I caved and went for it. I figure I'm going to need a 622 sooner or later, and net cost being free is hard to argue with. :)

Install is set for 6/18...was offered even earlier, but I'm scheduled to be out of town.

Fingers-crossed that I'm not going to regret it!

Has anyone called DISH and gotten the deal? If so, what's the number, what's the department, and what's the promo code reference? I've called twice and the CSR each time had no clue what I was talking about. Thanks!

Same here. I've called twice including a number posted here and they act totally clueless and say there is no such promotion. I have already paid the $299 with a scheduled install date of this Saturday. And I am inclined to cancel unless they can match this deal. Especially since there is no compelling reason to upgrade the 942 since locals are not available in Hartford CT and it doesn't look like they will be anytime soon.

The number that make me that offer is 866-668-8047. I took it! Free swap, free install, free dish upgrade. Not only do I get about 3 more HD channels now, but all future HD channels. No-Brainer decision to take the deal.

you could try emailing the executive office and asking for the deal. Thats what a lot of existing subs did successfully when the 942 came out and was supposedly only leased to new subs.

I tried that last night. I emailed them twice and then spoke to them on the phone. They are claiming that this offer is not through Dish Network and they don't know anything about it. They say it must be through a third party and they have no control over it. I don't know what to believe. I called the number listed here in this post and they also are acting clueless. What is going on here?

Like someone else said, this offer is probably for customers that meet certain criteria. Long time customers with big monthly subscriptions?

Oh, I know Stone probably fits the criteria but he's in such bad terms with E* that he probably won't get the call. ;) Just kidding Stone.

i was at one time one of the best residential customers out there IMHO
8 irds all dvrs 4 dual tuners
aep nba ncaa gameplan ten extasy playboy hd pack and voom plus 5 dns cities all the big four superstations pack

but thanks to the audit team dish loses out
i just give dtv comcast bell and starchoice more money each month

Whew! I got the call . . . . but it was a painful experience. My wife called me from home this morning and said someone offered us the $200 for $199 deal. She did the right thing by calling me. I just wish I would have been there to accept on the spot. Unfortunately, tracking down the right person to talk to at DISH is a colossal and time-consuming challenge. You must be mentally prepared and have your afternoon wide open if you want to initiate the call to DISH.

My initial excitement in finally, FINALLY, getting "the call" was immediately squelched by my irritation at the DISH organization. According to my wife, the DISH CSR that called her said that my account was notated and that anyone at 800-333-3474 could help. WRONG!

Attempt #1: The guy could not even pull up my account because his system was malfunctioning. He transfered me to someone else, but since I do work for a living, I couldn't wait indefinitely. Hung up. Try again later.

Attempt #2: Spoke with some foreign feller. I explained to him the deal, he seemed to understand, he took all my info in a long time consuming exchange, and in closing he said, "so we're going charge you $299 . . . " I asked if he was even listening to me, and he said there is no such promotion. I said, "Do not change my account, and do not charge anything." Click.

Attempt #3: Spoke to someone else, cut to the chase and asked him to check my account for notes about this phantom call my wife got this morning. He said he saw the notes but can't honor the deal, but that deal starts June 9 and to call back. I said the freakin' guy was trying to offer my wife the deal this morning. He said that was impossible, and that he apologized for the misinformation we received. Click.

Attempt #4: Spoke with another lost soul. I said, "I am extremely agitated, and it would save us both a great deal of unpleasantness if you transfer me to your boss or someone that can make special decisions regarding account promotions." He did so, and after a long wait I spoke to Nicole. She was very nice and intimately familiar with the promotion and made the arrangements for me. Done.

What a cluster @#$%&! Advice: immidiately speak to someone called "Account Specialist" right off the bat. Don't waste your time with anyone else. It was interesting that one of the operators mentioned that after Jun 9, this same promotion will be available in all the call centers' systems as an option.

Some additional info about our setup: I had Dish for about 2 years, most basic package, DVR-510. Got married & moved. Closed my account, opened new account in wife's name to get free equipment and promotions including a leased 942, AMT60, and the old HD pak. Locals are not yet available in St. Louis but are supposedly available any time. As best I can tell from this forum and my own experience, the only requirement to receive this promotion is to own or lease a 942.

Good luck everybody!

I called the main number but chose the selection for tech support., then chose the option for "all other problems". Got a very nice american english speaking person who explained all the details but when I was ready to close the deal she had to transfer me to a "special department" that sets it all up. I asked her for the extention in case I was disconnected but she said there wasn't one she could give me or even the exact name of the "special department".

The call transfer was successful and again I spoke with a very nice american english speaking CSR who explained everything very well then set up the install. She said they were making install appointments no sooner than 1 month from the day you call to give time for me to receive the 622 1st. She said if I receive the 622 early I can call back and reschedule the install for an earlier date.

I've only been a E* customer for just over 1 year and I've only had the Top 60 with locals, HD pack and VOOM so I don't think I got any special treatment with this deal because they were making tons of money off me.

After about 10 frustrating phone calls of trying to get through to the right department and countless unanswered emails, I just cancelled my 622 upgrade that was scheduled for this weekend.
I refuse to pay $299 for an upgrade that other people are being offered for $199. I have been a Dish customer for over 10 years and have never dealt with such incompetence in a customer service department in my life. They were perfectly happy to just cancel the order and it probably would not bother them if I cancelled Dish altogether.

I just got the call. The Department at Dishs is the Promos department. The CSR said to ask for if I had troubles getting the offer again when I called back.

He said its ONLY for Dish Customers with a Hight Dish Score. Thats the score on there screen. I think its made up with 100% on time payments and the high level of Dish package your buy each month and maybe your Utilities credit score, Im not sure.

NOTE: This OFFER IS NOT FOR EVERYONE SO STOP CALLING unless you got the call first. You will see it on your Caller ID History screen on your Dish DVR (yes you must already have a 942 to get the offer).

QUESTION:

I have Two HDTVs now, what are my Options? I really want an HD DVR on the 2nd HDTV in HD.

I'm looking into this as well as I'm starting to build out my basement which will contain a home theater. I also have an HD tv in our living room and an SD tv in the bedroom now, but it will be HD some day. My wife and I will ultimately spend an equal amount of time between all TV's so we want to use a common DVR. The best solution I've seen so far is to use an HDMI or component splitter amplifier. The component splitters I believe are cheaper. The only other downside to the splitter option is that everyone has to watch whatever channel comes off that particular tuner. Then with the remote TV's you use UHF remotes or IR remotes with UHF repeaters to control the base DVR. Check out the following for splitters:

One thought on possible criteria for offering this promo is... how long are you currently committed? Since you've got to re-up to accept the offer, it would seem to make sense to offer it first to those who are month-to-month or nearing completion of their commitments.

Still waiting on my call here in DFW, and I'm still committed for ~14 months from my 942 lease last year.

Negatory. I had only been on my 18mt committment for about 5 mts when I got (and took!) the offer to swap out both my 942's for 622's FREE! I think one of the previous posters may be onto something though with finding a correlation between 100% on-time payments and previous history & getting the call? I'm set-up with auto-pay through Dish.
