Friend has DTV and is moving...

into a house that already has DTV. Is he able to cancel his account, hook up his receivers into the new house and join his roommates account? How many receivers can you have on one account?

If the receivers are leased they must be returned. If under contract an ETF will be assessed

When your friend that has DIRECTV moves and cancels his DIRECTV account he'll have to return his receivers. When he moves in with his friend the friend will have to add another box to his account for the new guy to use.

You can have as many boxes on an account as you are willing to pay for.
