Garage sale Viewmax HD

I was at a garage sale this past Saturday and the lady there was selling her Viewsat Max HD. I got it for $5 and figured it would be worth a shot. It has hackware on it, as expected. Has anyone ever had any luck with this unit? Can I flash it back to normal via USB or does it have to be serial? I'm limited to a laptop at the moment with no serial port.


P.S. Is the satellite list also limited to alphabetical or can it be numerical in order of orbital slot?

I used one until the microHD came out. It won't do DVB-S2 so it's of limited use. I believe to get satellites into orbital position you first sort by satellite, then manually move them into longitude order.

I had one but the blind scan never worked right. I just manually entered transponders with it.

Yup $5 for a HD STB is a steal. Even if its just mpeg2 HD I would buy one in a heart beat. We still have a lot of mpeg2 HD channels on cband left.

If I could find one local for that price I'd buy it also and add it to my system. There's a lot to watch as I'm still using them. Good find and great price.
