what receiver are you using?

Some will work with a program called Channelmaster where you can save the channel list to the computer. Some receivers have a USB option where you can save to a USB stick (GeosatPro is one)

Power outages will not cause loss of transponder or channel data.

If you wish to save a custom channel list to external USB memory, press Menu >>> Utility >>> USB >>> Green Button.

I've saved my channels from my Geosat 1100c to a usb stick, but could not bring the file into Channel Master for editing etc. Will CM work?

Import as CNX type and export as CNX type.

In my 1100c save mode I have a choice of "channel data (SDB)" or "all S/W data (GPB). Neither of which are CNX files. Also in CM program I see many file types to import, but not SDB, GPB, or CNX.

Sorry.... I'll clarify: Save data as Channel List (SDB) and import in CM as Conaxsat file type.
