Getting the Most out of my EDTV/D* HD Receiver

I have an EDTV that will display up to 480p through its component inputs, however it supports up to 800x600 through its VGA input. Is there any way I can take advantage of this? My D* HD receiver has a VGA output.. Can I (using some kind of hardware) somehow transform a 720p or 1080i signal into something that will display using the TVs VGA input?
