I was wondering if you could use a gift file as your profile picture. If so, what resolution does it have to be and if not, try making it happen.

Not as an Avatar as I understand, others have used a form of a JPG to do it.

The answer is yes and no. There has been an issue for some time now where longtime members have animated GIFs for their avatars which work in posts but when newer members try uploading them they only show when you click your member information. Several of us, myself included, have asked for a fix but to date there has been no resolution. It apparently has something to do with the way the new forum software resizes/converts the GIFs for display. Here is some info on the problem along with some possible fixes:

https://xenforo.com/community/threads/animated-avatars.34894/
https://xenforo.com/community/threads/animated-avatars-in-threads.14807/ (This appears to be a fix)

Perhaps Scott will look into this for us. :)

That makes sense as the resize function likely doesn't care or consider that it may be an animated GIF. To avoid that, resize the GIF yourself, to the proper size that this site uses, before uploading. See if that works.

Nope, already tried resizing them but no luck - apparently there are some extensions and settings that need to be enabled under Xenforo to make it work.

How long time?

I am told that animated images are not work because imagemagic has been disabled on the server due to a security issue with imagemagic that had not been patched yet.

How can that be the case when they work for some users but not others? If that was the issue then none of them should work but here are some posts from users whose animated avatars are working fine:

Because those were created before Anthony shut Imagemagic off.

The way it works is when you upload the file, the file is processed by the system for a format that is usable for the forum software. Once the file is processed it is done. But new stuff is not being processed anymore by imagemagic so its not processing animated images.

So is there a way to manually size and convert an animated GIF to the correct format for Xenforo before uploading so that it will not need conversion by the forum software?

Nope...

Which is annoying in itself... as a few times I had a perfect sized avatar... and xenforo shrunk it down smaller leaving a lot of white space and was silly since the original was the correct size.

Well, that explains it then. Any idea if/when ImageMagic will be patched and usable?
