Gizmodo Compares D* and E*

They bolded the very reason I went back to E* instead of going to D* when I switched from cable:

"When all things were about equal, it seemed the deal-breaker was DirecTV's massive up front cost. "

Is the up-front cost to own the DVR, or is it a lease deal? Someone on the comments said it was a purchase instead a lease.

I was under the impression that D* was basically charging an initial fee to lease, like E* used to before they went to the 'free DVR'.

They didn't cover DVR Advantage either I don't think, but 3 bucks is 3 bucks I guess.

The upfront cost is just to rent it. Still do not own it. Legal wordy crap so people do not open them up. It didn't make sense to me, to switch to DirectTV just because they have more HD programming and one channel I wanted that Dish does not have. As they stated is exactly what I would have had to do, put $300 upfront just to rent the crap when I got the same things from Dish for free.
