I picked up this Heathkit HW-32A SSB (20M) transceiver today, complete with power supply, external speaker, headphones, all cables, and original manuals. I figured it was a good starter for $150.

Jeepguy,

Nice Hot Water 32 station! I run the HW-12A on 75 meters for our local 'Vintage Sideband' net, 3895. The paper caps in the transceiver and the electrolytics in the HP23 have been replaced but other than that the set is original. The tubes are even original! The set gets good reports on the air loaded to an 80 meter sloped dipole. I got the HW-12 at a parking lot fleamarket with an HW-100 and a pile of Heath testequipment for $150. The HW-100 is up and on the air too.

73!

Right now I'm dickering with a guy for a DX-100 which may make the HW-32A obsolete before I ever transmit. If I get the DX-100 I will most likely sell the HW-32A. There is very limited room in my shack and I already have a Halli S-20R, Halli S-40A, and a Hammy HQ-140-X up and running (not to mention the 21 other radios in here). I do have the HW-32A up and running as a receiver using an outdoor 75' longwire and I must admit reception is great. I'm in NE Penna and have copied as far away as the Virgin Islands and California. Not bad for a mismatched antenna.
