Ok since u303 was applied earlier this week I now have 3 new issues that did not exist before. 1) creating a new timer defaults the folder to the last folder created it no longer defaults to 'No Folder' as it should... 2) some previous timers that were imported from Hopper w/Sling which were seek and record are no longer working and with the inability to create a new seek and record this really screws up my timers. 3) went to transfer "excess" programs to my EHD, selected 6 only 3 transferred, ok reboot then was able to move the remaining 3 so I selected 6 more and only 2 transferred this time, EHD is good, usb is good and prior to u303 worked as it should.

Yes, it was. To see it now you have to go to the OTA tile in Menu, Settings and then go to the channel you want to see.
That's really stupid to remove that. The 722 had that and all the others. I liked it
No, the OS is a Dish-tweaked version of Linux. What we see/use is just an application. Rebooting should not be necessary to restart an app. With modern versions of Linux, in fact, you can update the kernel without rebooting.

Guide updates is just data. Firmware is basically the OS, OSes always require rebooting or standby of some sort since the firmware may have downloaded while the box is not on but can only be used in a running state only when it's in standby. No different than on a computer which is what the Hopper basically is as it's running Linux which is a flavor of Unix that when you do a update like in Windows, it will require a reboot before the new version can be used as it's part of the OS so I am sure that assuming you had U301 and there was U303 and later U304, it will download both U303 and assuming you don't put the box in standby, it will just download U304 on top of U303 unless U304 contains the entire code instead of just a patch but when you put it into standby, it will then run the new code.
The phone line has not actually been used even with the Hopper 2K as I asked if I needed a phone line back in 11/2012 and one was never connected. One would actually wonder if it does updates using the Internet connection as it will sure save DISH lots of bandwidth.
I actually noticed that on the H2K everytime it rebooted and went into standby before my autotune timer took over, it would always say hit select to watch and also Guide Download is x% complete.
Which is why I said standby shouldn't be needed to update the software either since as long as the box is on, it can download and it can always have a notification icon on the screen or something so the user can put the Hopper on standby at their own convenience. Linux is only really just a kernel itself and never was a complete OS as the userland is packaged by whoever does the packaging so there are more flavors than there is ice cream. FreeBSD on the other hand is a complete OS as everything from the kernel to the userland is included.
Ok so it doesn't appear as though my Hopper has communicated since 2/1. Previous hopper did something every night in the early morning hours. Does the H3 not do that now? If these updates are supposed to occur in Standby mode, how is the average user that doesn't access a message board know this? Is standby mode automatic? Mine is set to 4 hours.
Appears that it's no longer automatic unless one either set the Inactivity timer for Standby mode or manually turn the box off with the power button on the remote or the Hopper 3. And you are right that the average user who doesn't go looking at forums will not know about it especially for those who set the inactivity time for standby to off, they will never get the software update until they put the H3 on standby mode manually which they do not know about unless they read forums.
The Hopper still updates - as long as you allow it to go into standby overnight (or do that manually) - it needs that "down" time. My viewing has never been interrupted by the Hopper 3 whereas it almost always happened when I had my HWS.

Are you missing guide data ? Dish's DVRs have a 9-day guide so if yours hasn't updated since the 1st, your guide would be completely blank by now.
Not true with the H3. Guide updates are on the fly and take up one of the available tuners. You could never go into standby and receive guide updates all day long.
Didn't say anything about guide data. Under diagnostics it says "Last Connect: 2/1" which is the day it was installed. My software is U301. My search data is still not populating. Others in this thread have received a new update. How do we get the new 303 update? Previous message for Netflix said 2/11 which came and went and now it says 2/18.You're proving my point that his DVR is in fact updating
U303 was pushed and if like almost ALL updates with Dish, only sent to a group of receivers. More receivers get added in a 2nd, 3rd, and so on push. In the case of U303, it was STOPPED.
