guess ill upgrade to hr24 then.. with SWM does the HR24 only use 1 cable from the splitter or 2 ?

I imagine that if you are adventurous, you could attach a Hauppauge HD PVR http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr.html (or Elgato EyeTV HD http://www.elgato.com/eyetv/eyetv-hd if you have Mac) to your H25 & set up a DVR system through your computer. You'd only have one tuner to record from & your H25 would be tied up with the HD PVR recording whatever you had scheduled to record. One important fact, since both of these devices I provided links to are hooked up using component cables(Hauppauge does have a more modern HD PVR,the HD PVR 2 which you can use HDMI cable for) to record with, you'd need the component cable adapter for the H25 http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.as...nt-dongle-for-directv-h25-and-c31-(h2510pin)- to be able to do this.

It's worth mentioning that the HDCP in the H25 would probably not allow an HDMI-based PVR to work. I know it stops the Slingbox 500 from working.
