HBO eyes April premiere for its standalone streaming service

With all these individual channels now going standalone...at one point will cost more than a traditional package.

HBO: 20$
Sling:20$
Netflix: 10$

It can add up pretty fast.
a la carte only works for the discriminating consumer, not the person that wants all the programming.

Yep. Thinking the same.
Cord cutters could end up paying as much or more without the benefit of dvrs.

It's all competition and will hopefully help keep cable prices under control. What I think we will start seeing unfortunately with stuff like HBO direct is they will start spreading out episodes for seasons, to keep people subscribed longer or they will limit what you can view from past episodes so you have to get the sub when the show airs. No one month memberships to watch all of GOT season X then cancel
