HD21-100 with external hard drive??

I had a quick question about the Directv HD box, I just got Directv HD cable and when they installed the service the installer said all i had to do is install a hard drive via rj45 and you have a HD box with DVR. Now is this true with out hacking the box is it just plug and play?

No this is NOT true.
I'm gonna guess that the receiver your talking about is a H21, there is no HD21, but the H21 IS HD, so maybe thats what you were getting at.
You cannot make a regular HD receiver turn into a DVR by adding a Hard drive.

IF you have a HD DVR (HR20/21) and want to add a External Hard Drive (this will disable the internal HD) you can do this, many have so they can get a much larger amount of HD space.
btw, you use the ESATA type hard drive, not a usb or rj45 connection.
