Out here somewhere
There use to be a thread on this package but for the life of me I can't find it even searching.
For those of you that have gone (downgraded) to this package could I ask a few questions. Currently I have "everything" with a leased 622 but no contract. This $139 a month is gettng old real quick. I talked to the wife about just going with the HD only package plus locals and keeping the movie channels that she likes to watch. She said that would be fine "but" not until SciFi is included . It looks like that maybe a reality in the near future so I am trying to get prepared for my call to Dish.
I know from the original thread on this that folks were being harassed by CSRs that this was not a "qualified" package and could not have it!
Has this now been straightened out?
Is it best to just call customer service (india)?
Any other thoughts on pulling this off with the least amount of pain?
Thanks in Advance for any help,
Gerry

from everything I've read and from my own experience its a toss up whether or not you get someone that knows what they're doing. There was a thread regarding trouble someone had switching still recently.

My tactic was I used the Live Chat and just told the guy "I want HD Only package for $29.99 + locals + DVR for $40.97/mo total" and it was no problem we were done in less than 5 minutes.

Painless.

I would have signed up for it a while ago, but not being able to keep my RSN is a deal breaker.

their website? Do you need to sign in or anything to use that feature?

Thanks for the input, gerry

I'm curious about this too? Where do you access this Dish chat function on their website?

EDIT: NM, I found it on their site under Customer service, Contact Us, then click on the live chat bubble on the bottom left.

I would have signed up for it a while ago, but not being able to keep my RSN is a deal breaker.

It almost was a deal breaker for me, too but I refused to pay ~$50 extra for two FSN RSN's that didn't bother to broadcast hockey in HD anyway (L.A. area).

Dish is going to have to offer the RSN's on an a la carte basis in the future to keep me as a subscriber...

I still have trouble getting over the no RSN thing. Its easy right now since there is no Oregon Football yet, but Lord they really need to figure it out by the time fall rolls around. I can't justify doubling my bill for ONE CHANNEL.

Asinine.

Does anyone know if this is because of contracts with the programmers or is it all Dish?

WOW- no posts on that thread for going on a month! Does anyone have any recent experience switching to this package?

Thanks, gerry
I switched to it about 3 weeks ago. Mostly just to keep my bill low! I rarely watch HD with E* now. But I like their Cinemax and superstation pack! And for $29 its worth it! My main HD/SD tv viewing goes to D*

I don't know if it is contractual or just Dish policy. But I can't believe they are all (RSN's and Dish) too stupid to get an extra $10 per month per HD Only subscriber when most everyone is willing to pay it. Maybe Dish is afraid that more subscribers would switch to the HD Only package if they offer RSN's as well, thereby reducing their overall revenues...

If I feel I can't get along without my 2 RSN's, I will look elsewhere for a cheaper deal than Dish. I won't pay an additional $50/month to Dish for RSN's...

...
I couldn't justify doubling my bill for one OU game per year on the RSN either. Bye bye, RSN.

I've tried to add the multi-sport pack to Dish HD dozens of times. I thought maybe I would have some luck with different CSRs. No luck. I also emailed ceo@dishnework.com. I was told it was a contract issue. I've told them repeatedly that I would gladly pay extra for this but they won't allow it. It is pretty rediculous. The multi-sports pack is only $4.99. I went from AT200 to the Hd only pack. I'm saving about $25 a month. I added the $4.99 Encore pack. If They would let me add multi-sport I would still save $15/month over what I was paying and would have created the perfect package for me. Dish really needs to give a little on this.

Dish really needs to give a little on this.

I hear this.

But does Dish Network? I hope so.

- An open letter to Dish Network -

Dear Dish Network,

Your HD-Only package is awesome. We like it a lot. Except for the no RSN. Nobody is sticking with an $80+ package just to keep their one RSN channel they're switching anyway and pissed you won't include it or let us add the multisport pack. Please get your contracts in order and hook us up before college football season. We might even forgive you for not adding any new national HD for so long.

Thanks,
Intelligent Viewers

P.S. -- tell the networks to stop stretching 4:3 content to 16:9.

I switched over on Monday night. My motivation was that I wanted Versus so I could get the hockey playoffs. It took about 4 attempts to get straight that I wanted to drop AT200 and switch to HD only.

Getting her to give me the Public Interest package was a real ordeal. Every time she came back she insisted that I couldn't get it; after 4 time of me asking her to research it some more, she said that she could add it, but I had to acknowledge that there might be objectionable/adult content. I have no idea what that was all about ( I bet if CSPAN showed some porn it'd be a lot more popular :D )

Total time spent on the phone was 25 minutes.

Yes, it is really killing me not to get the last two months of the Avalanche hockey season and to (probably) miss at least half of their playoff games but I am not paying $50/month for that privelege either!

I would also gladly pay $10/month for the sports channel package as well. Next year I will probably buy the Center Ice package (and 'move' away from Denver to avoid the blackouts that have hampered my reception of a couple of games already).

I am going to drop down to this on Saturday. My D* install is then but it will take approx. 45 days for my DNS waivers to come through so I am going to keep E* just for HD locals. I figure I will have to go about 2 months and then drop E* entirely. I will miss some of the Voom channels but it wont be worth 40 bucks to keep them once I have my HD locals on D*.

Just switched to this package today. I did have AT200 with DVR advantage and dishHD ultimate which was $69.99 a month. Now I have the HD stand alone pack with locals. The wife likes sticking our baby in front of Noggin so I compromised by getting BabyFirst. The total with BabyFirst is going to be $45.96 before tax (not including the HD rebate that I still will get). Can't beat $24 a month in savings for keeping all the channels that I watch anyway.
