Welcome.

Not all programs on an HD channel are HD nor are all HD programs16x9 aspect ratio.

I set mine like this for my 16x9 TV & projector (720p native panels); but you my fine better setups for your gear.

DirecTV HD
1080i output
Native off
16x9 TV
black bar pillars
(i think) normal or original display

(typed from memory as I am at work)

Once you get the HD settings good, invest in a new keyboard.

I think you're missing the x key and a couple next to m that look like this: , .

Joking asisde, you'll probably be best to leave native off and set it for 1080i or 720p depending on the quality of your set. My projector is designed for 720p, so I use that.

I agree, native off works best (for me anyway).
I started out having mine set at 720P, but have since changed it to 1080i to let my tv do the scaling. I am working under the assumption that my Panny has a better scaler than the HR

Id do the same on both of my displays.

Native off, one at 1080i and the other at 720p.
