Now that DISH has dropped the price of their HD DVR to $550 does anyone think Directv will follow suit?

Being that the HD-DVR offered by D* actually works I doubt it. Everytime I visit the E* forums it is like Voom ... this is broken, that doesn't work, etc. If they do, which I think would only benefit D*, I'll be ticked. As I posted in another thread I have no 60-day price guarantee with VE, like I would have had with UE. I this would all but invalidate any programming credits I have received.

I for one think it would be a great move on D*'s part to lower the price point... They could move many more units at a lower price and probably more than make up the difference in revenue.... not to mention the extra $11 / month that all those new subs would be paying in the long run....
C'MON....LOWER THE PRICE ALREADY!

As long a sales continue to be brisk, as they currently are, we will not see a price break. I don't think DIRECTV considers Dish a tough competitor on this high end HD product.

And with the new SPACEWAY satellite launch Q1 '05 DIRECTV will be the king of HD programming.

I hope you're right Robert!!! But I guess all things factored .......... $999 minus D* credit $200 minus VE credit $100 minus HTL-HD Sale $235 I got mine for $464 and I can't bitch ... include the fact that the initial $1385 this came from was from a poker win ... it was not even my 464 that I paid :)

Great job playing poker! What kind and where do you play poker? I love poker and play in two different weekly games plus travel to Vegas several times a year.

If you are going to Vegas for the CES Show lets meet.

I play all kinds of games!!!
2/5-Pot Dealers Choice
Pot Limit Dealers Choice
No Limit Hold 'Em
Various NL Hold 'Em Tourneys 10+0 to 250+10

My best game I feel is Pot Limit Hold 'Em ... that is a regular winner for me and where I hit the best takes. I just started the true no limit about a month ago.

Lots of private games, we have no good casinos in Colorado and Casinos tend to be full of team players anyway. I am thinking of CES but January is a bad time. As an IT Director in a Leggett Company we have capital asset acquisitions and deployments at that time. Right now I have a SQL 2000 and Solomon 6 migration to work on, in addition to other crap. CES is like a huge thing I'd like to make an annual trip!

I can't help but think that in the next few months (at the longest) we will see either a price break on the HD Tivo or a whole different piece of equipment with a lower price point. I can remember when the SD tivo box was going for $299, and now they are all but giving the things away. I'm not trying to be cheap, but the wife would kill me for spending a grand on another D* box...hehe

I'm guessing we will see $800 promotional prices for the holidays, but not much lower than that. Robert's right. The HDTivo seems to be very hot right now, even at the current price structure. My guess is that D* is minting new subs (both cable rejects like me, and E* refugees).
