I live 100 miles south of San Francisco. Several years ago I "moved" so I could get the Bay Area locals via DIRECTV (my locals weren't available at the time). I'm now ready to upgrade to HD, but I don't want to give up the Bay Area locals because they are HD while my locals (which are now available on DIRECTV) are not. I'm guessing if I call DIRECTV to set me up with new equipment and an install they will realize my real geographic location and switch me to my true locals. So...either I need to do the install myself or find someone who will do it under the table. From what I've read, pointing the 5LNB dish is more complicated that the single LNB I currently have, but not impossible. Should I try it myself or find someone to do it for me? If I should find someone, how do I find them without calling DIRECTV? Thanks for any feedback.

You should likely "move back" - it IS a violation of your agrement with DirecTV AND against the law for them to provide you with a DMA other than your own; so than can be potential issues.

Anyway; what is so different or what exactly is missing from the Monterey, CA ~ San Benito, CA ~ Santa Cruz, CA DMA vs the San Fran DMA? HD Local retransmission I assume? You could just use an OTA setup.

While it is a violation of the TOS, you could "move" back to the "normal" address for the summer (summer address, correct?). Have your upgrade done, and then "move" back to your normal address for the remainder.

Move to your summer house, then call a week later and get upgraded. Move back to your winter address.

Had Dish ask me one time why my phone stayed the same at different locations and I told him I had vonage.

Never moved with direcTV although i would if there was a way for me to get NESN and locals but the Boston locals aren't on Conus anymore.
