Hd without a Cable Box?

Is there any Hd available if I connect the cable to a HD tuner or do you need a box to decode it? The reason I am asking is I would like to connect it to my Dish Network receiver as it has a HD tuner and I would be able to record from the cable channels. I am mostly interested in MSG For the Ranger games. I also could connect the cable directly to my HD TV. It does not have a Cable Card slot.

MSG HD is not in the clear on Cablevision, only the Locals in HD are in the clear. So you will need a cable box if you want MSG HD.
