Just hooked up a new DVD player, the player outputs 1080p
and my info on my new HDTV says 1080p, but my HDTV just does
720p and 1080i so why would the HDTV say 1080p if it does not do 1080p?

If the TV says 1080p on input it probably is doing 1080p/24 to 1080i/60 conversion. It should not really be an issue.

If you have a 1080p Toshiba DLP like I do, it only upconverts to 1080p which was never explained to me when I bought it.
