hird d7 subtitles

I have DIRECTV and live in Costa Rica. DIRECTV supplied me with a Hughes HIRD D7 decoder. The following options work on, for example, the history channel. Spanish and English in audio (these options selectable), Portugese subtitles (selectable), but Spanish subtitles do not work when selected! I need Spanish subtitles. How do I get them. The problem is not the selectable options in the menus. Could it be the program card. Any assistance would be appreciated!

I've noticed that for some channels no subtitles, or caption text shows, even in english.

I've noticed this on some shows on Discovery Science, and on TLC.

Is your problem on a specfic show, or anything on the station in question?
