A Hisense statement confirmed the purchase of "all equity and assets of Sharp's TV factory in Mexico for $23.7 million with rights to use the Sharp brand name and all its channel resources in both North and South American regions." While Hisense is a strong contender in the Chinese TV market, it has struggled to make gains in the U.S., which is dominated by brands such as Samsung, LG and Sony.

First the Japanese took over American TV sales, next the South Koreans, I guess this is the beginning of the invasion of the Chinese brands. Although, I understand they are licensing the Sharp brand name.

The topic title and headlines are grossly misleading. Hisense has purchased only a small part of Sharp originally known as Sharp America that dealt exclusively in televisions and associated paraphernalia.

Note that Sharp America is not to be confused with Sharp USA.

Sharp proper makes appliances and business machines and those operations will remain.
