Number of satellites in orbit with unused space. How can E* keep adding HD channels and D* is maxed out?
Because E* is a much more well-run company than D*.How can E* keep adding HD channels and D* is maxed out?
D* has been asleep at the wheel for a while as they ran out of space with no real plans for decent DBS capacity. They may be buying up sports fans gallore, but they missed out big time on buying up DBS slots! E* but just about every slot out there! ;0

Yep, that chart really is out of date. Dish has all the VOOM transponders on 61.5, and also the two unassigned ones right now. It needs to show the 118.7 and 129 transponders. Beyond that, it needs to show how many spotbeams per transponder. It's so old, it doesn't even mention E10.Guess I don't understand how you got to your conclusion about buying up DBS slots. According to http://www.dbsforums.com/compare/chart.html E* owns DBS licenses for 125 transponders and D* ownes 190. I didn't include the licenses that D* and E* are leasing from Canada (wonder when they need to give those back) or the FSS transponders that E*'s using.
Asleep?
Dude, you are in Dream World, it's ok though, you will be waking up in the fall!

Sure, but what's your point? The chart should reflect the transponders currently in use by each provider. If it changes in the future, then update the chart.Yep, sure is, but 118.7 from what I see is a Canadian slot that E*'s leasing space from, same for 129.
At least that's what Captain Kirk and the scientist from Back to The Future say. So far it's been a lot of TV commercials and no action from D*. That's why I left them last year.![]()

Plenty of action, if you count building and setting up for launch a couple of zillion dollar sats (I do), and absolutely no promises that they aren't on schedule to deliver. It seems that folks want to count rumors on this and other sights, and mostly hearsay as promises. The source hasn't promised anything that they are not on schedule to deliver. That said, I don't blame you or anyone else for getting what they want when they want it, and for you and others that is E*. It will be great to have you back again in the fall! I like my sports the most so I wasn't going anywhere. But to each his own![]()
The one thing that I think hurt D* was how early they started to advertise the 150HD capacity. They have been running those commercials for over 1 1/2 years now and have not shown any progress. I know that they have 2 more SAT's going up this year and I hope they are sucessfull with launching all of the stations they say they will. I personally think that they will have a hard time getting the 70 (I think this was the number announced) national HD stations launched by the end of the year.
First off, they have NOT been running commercials touting 150HD capacity for ANYWHERE near 1 1/2 years.
Edit: The announcement said that they would have the capacity by 2007. So as of right now they are 5 months behind schedule.
Second, I see from their financials and analysts reports that they have record profits, revenues, and earnings the past 1 1/2 years, so I don't know what you mean by what has "hurt D*. They have also had much reduced chrun, and have added over a million net subs in that time frame.
Third - they HAVE in fact shown the actual HD progress they ANNOUNCED in September 2004 - this includes launching the first 2 of the 4 sats - launching 59 HD locals markets, negotitating with MANY, MANY content providers to be ready for September (when it is expected that DIRECTV 10 is up and on). The progress has NEVER been to have that capacity until DIRECTV 10 is launched, and even at the most optimistic timeframe of Q1 of 2007, they may end up being a WHOPPING 3 months behind - which BTW is really not bad when it comes to sats and things like this - many of which THEY HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL of.
