I have a member trying to start a conversation. Blocked saying I have reached my limit of 500. It shows 250 conversations but I can find no way to delete the old ones. Thanks in advance.

There's no way to clear them all in one swell foop.

Just click on the envelope icon next to the notification bell and select "Show all".

I usually start with the conversations that the other users have "left".

I don't see Delete/Purge Message in the list of actions available.

Ah, yes, that's right. You don't "Delete" PMs, you "Leave" them.🙄

Thats not going to work, the OP said that he was out of room, something like 500 is the max.
If theres a Max, there has to be a way to delete them.

I think we could delete them in the old software, haven't tried with the new(er) Xen software.

I did look into mine and I also didn't see where to delete.

My messages go all the way back to when I joined SatelliteGuys. I would have thought the older messages might have been pruned, but nope, I saw a message about my Father-in-Law signing up for 784 kbaud DSL on Verizon from the 2000s…

Nope, the don't actually go away (ie purged from the database) until BOTH parties leave the conversation.

This is why I don't allow attachments in PM's. As those attachments stay in the database basically forever. Imagine how much drive space that would use. :)

Xenforo 3.0 is supposed to totally revamp the PM system. Of course I am not looking forward to that because most if not all our Add In's will stop working, or need to be installed again if they make a 3.0 version.

I hear ya on attachments taking up space for PMs. Do you think there would be that many? It sure would be nice a have that feature turned on. I have sometimes wanted to add attachments several times thru the years. Is it something you could try out and see how goes it? If it is that bad you can turn it back off.

Nope. we only have so much drive space. If I turn it on and people use it, it is space we may never get back. And I have no way of telling how many PM's have attachments, nor can I delete them. As I said the Xenforo PM system stinks.

Maybe you could start a fundraiser to purchase the add on that would allow you to that
The problem with auto deleting PM's is the fact that some folks save PM's and want to keep them, some have PM's from members who are no longer with us etc and if we do auto delete those memories people wanted to keep would automatically be removed.

Just a thought..no harm meant
No you didn't cause harm. :)

I just have to think of these things.

I wish there was a "saved" folder where you could save what you want to save, and its yours forever. So if we ran a utility which cleans your box so nothing over a year stays... only the things in your "saved" folder will remain and not be removed automatically. That would be a great thing. :D

One other thing to remember is Pub Members have a much larger PM box... in fact if I remember correctly it may be unlimited. (Could be wrong its been a long time since I set that up.) :D But I do know its a larger box.

Yes according to the Pub membership one of the benefits it shows as: "* A larger Private Conversation box, store UNLIMITED Conversations instead of only 25!"
