I am looking to buy an Archos player.
Does anyone know how much space is needed for a 1 hour TV show?
Trying to figure out which one to buy.

Thanks!

Depends on whether you're recording the actual transport stream, or are de/reencoding and on which codec.

But on general principle, buy as much space as you can possibly afford. More.

When I was using MythTV I was seeing around 2.5Gb per hour when encoding standard def shows to mpeg-2. I don't have experience recording HD yet, but I'd guess around 8Gb per hour at 1080i. These guesses are rough and will vary based on lots of factors.

The dish receiver and hard drives record the transport stream.
I get these numbers without commercials and filler:
800-900 MB/hour of MPEG-2 SD,
1900-2700 MB/hr of MPEG-4 HD,
3200-4400 MB/hr of MPEG-2 HD,
even higher for MPEG-2 OTA.
The PDF is MB/hr vs MB size including commercials and filler for some for about 700 movies.
