How much is the Hopper upgrade costing you?

I got my upgrade for free. My contract was up, and I told them I was a long time customer, my contract was up, and I had no problem to switch to direct TV, which give it to me for free.

Yeah - I am evaluating Direct receivers today. I paid $200 to put up with the buggy 922 (which I have replaced twice). Now, they want another $100 to switch to Hopper, they wanted to charge $95 to install, and we did not even address the (now) $50 sling adapter.

At this point, the LAST thing I want to do is another contract with Dish.

I was quoted $300 plus installation for 1H/1J by a DIRT. I am 8 months in my two year contract so no wiggle room for me. The funny thing is if it was a total of $200 I would have done it but $300 plus installation is too much. I'll just wait for the contract to end and then re-evaluate the situation.

That's a lot better than what I was quoted back in March. $700 for a 2H/3J. It was down to $200 last week when I called about a prob;lem with my signal (LNB drift). I'm waiting till the ota module comes out.

That is the same rate I just paid as a brand new customer switching from Directv. $199 2 hoppers/3 joeys, but I also got the sling adapter for $30 on top of that.

What I forgot to say in my post was that I have been a Dish subscriber for 15 years. They had some strange mysterious formula for determining what the upgrade would cost.

I'd like to know how some people are getting free installs. I had to pay $100.00.

Customer since June of 2001
AT 250
Had HD from the begining on an old 6000
Auto Pay
Never had any service interuptions and took service with me to 3 new homes.

I was told by the CSR on the phone that I was elgible for a free upgrade. I have AT250, Protection Plan and auto pay. I have been a sub for about 7 years (same address). I was installed last saturday (6/2). I began to get worried after reading this thread so at 5:00 am I went to the Dish chat to see if they could tell me if it indeed was free. I also sent a PM to the DIRT (Zach responded) on this forum. If they would have given me some outrageous number I was going to cancel. The Technician was due at 8:00. My last upgrade was in 2006. About 3 months after I signed up. I traded a none DVR reciever to the VIP622 DVR. Both told me that there would be no charge. Zach said that the agent that I upgrade with has taken care of all the charges. When I initially signed up I signed with a Dish affiliate and not on the Dish site. I dont remember who it was. I installed 1 Hopper and 3 Joeys up from 1 VIP 622 and 1 DVR 625.

I just got off the phone with DISH.

I'm a customer of 3 years, out of contract looking to replace two VIP211k's with a Hopper and Joey.

I was initially told it would be $300 + $15 installation with a 24-month contract but after a few rounds of chats and a few calls and finally escalating the call and pointing out that dish.com advertises "FREE HOPPER $99 VALUE" they agreed to drop the $300. I kept pointing out that neither "FREE" nor "$99 VALUE" were consistent with charging me $300. At the end of the day I'm looking at $15 installation, 24-month contract rates and I get my hopper and joey. I'm delighted.

They're coming Friday morning to setup the new equipment.

The moral seems to be, keep throwing their own ads in their face until they agree to honor them.

Congrats on your deal. You do realize the free hopper is for new customers only, right?
I paid $100 with no install fee, but I didn't waste any of my time with chats, calls, or escalations. A couple PMs with Zach and I got a next day (Sunday) install. A pleasant experience.

cost

I guess it seems the cost is allover the map! I have been a Dish customer for about 10 years. My wife decided we needed to get the Hopper and 3 joeys to replace the 922 and a 622 with DVR capabilities. CSR Matt told me wrong, that if I got two joeys for $7 per month, the third one was free. Other than that, it cost $100, plus $30 for the slinger. Monthly fees went up about $12. Two year contract. Nothing else available where I am except antenna or the OTHER sat folks. Took me 15 minutes. worth it.
