To clarify what everyone else has been saying, You cannot disable the nightly update, you can only specify when it occurs.
The receiver will go into standby after the nightly update - you cannot prevent that, but you can program an auto tune timer to fire 30 min to 1 hour after the nightly update that will re-awaken the receiver.
Combining that with turning off the inactivity standby, you should rarely discover the receiver when it is not pumping out programming.
