How to format a Hard drive

I have a HR21 it has been acting up frezzing during recorded videos also locks up and I have to reboot. I think my hard drive is the issue.

What steps can I do to format it OR fix this issue

On Screen Text: “Internal Storage Error Detected. A problem was detected reading your internal storage device. Please call Customer Service at 1-800-DIRECTV and report the diagnostic code displayed below. Diagnostic Code: 14”

Can the hard drive be replaced

Is it the one on board your recvr, or an External HD.

There are was of reformatting the HD's, you do understand that it will wipe it clean and you'll lose your recordings, right.

I do not remember the steps, however you can reset EVERYTHING and put the recvr back to the status of how you got it.

IF you want to do that, go to :

Menu/Settings/Reset/Reset Everything and dash.

This may take 1-3 hours, depending on what all is on your recvr.

A few of the others may have the exact steps to re format the HD, if you'd rather just do that, hopefully one will chime in .

Will this kill my receiver in anyway if I attempt to do this.

1.) Reset the unit -red button reset
2.) right after the almost there screen disappears mash on the record button and the down button at the same time (on the unit face plate) and hold them until the record light shines red - then let go.

It won't kill your dvr and yes it will format and should fix any errors.
