I've had the HR21 for about a year now. I switched from a standard def DirecTiVo and noticed that the interface was MUCH slower. I chalked this up to the increase in quality to HD, and it wasn't so bad that I wanted to do anything about it. The harddrive failed maybe a month in and it was replaced with a new unit, still an HR21 though. I was hoping the performance would improve, btu no luck. I have been living witht his for the past year or so. My question is, if I were to upgrade to an HR24, would I notice a significant increase in performance? I know the HR24 is a lot better, but will the speed increase significantly? Just doing due diligence before I shell out the $200. I was considering just waiting for the new DirecTiVo's, but at this point that sounds like it will be along wait.

Yes the speed will increase enough that you won't regret it.

I'm sure you know but........if you're going to shell out $200 for the HR-24 go to Solidsignal or Amazon and get it from there. If you order from Directv, they do not guarantee you'll get an HR-24. You won't regret getting this receiver, very solid and responsive.

Another option to get one is Dishstore (Claude)

I've had the HR-24 since June and have not been that impressed. It crashes every now and then causing me to reset it. Also, recently within the past few weeks, I have been unable to download On Demand programming via the internet. I've called D* and they have been unable to fix the problem as of yet - they've passed it on to "engineering". And I am not impressed with the HD picture - I thought my regular HD receiver had a better and clearer picture; the HR-24 picture always looks a bit hazy.

And what rcvr would that be ?

Haven't had a lick of trouble with any of my HR24's. Try resetting the internet in the network menu.

My HR24 picture is as good if not better than my other HR receivers. Have you checked cables? Tried different ones or different inputs on your TV? Are the resolution settings in the HR24 correct for your TV?

You can also force a software update which will give you the same software that is on it now, but may fix whatever issues you have.
