I'm trying to install a Slimline SL5SPIG-P single output dish directly to a HR24-500 recever . I am going directly from single output on dish to "Satelitte In (SWM-2) on receiver. Set-up is:

Dish Type: 18:Slimline-5S (SWM)
Switchtype: 01:SWM (dimmed)
Tuners: Dual

I am trying to point the dish and I can't get any signal at all.

Are settings right? Do I need a BBC? Help!

:welcome to Satelliteguys!

If the lnb has only one output, it's a swm type and it requires a power inserter. With the swm setup you don't need bbcs.

To expand a little on what Chip said, The Power Inserter he mentioned supplys the power to the LNB, before with non SWM set ups the power comes from the recvr, so without the PI, the LNB doesn't have enough power to run the LNB, that is why your not finding any signals.

OK - I got a PI-21 - here is my set up:

Slimline SL5SPIG-P single output dish >> PI-21 >> HR24-500 receiver. All with RG-6 cable.

Dish Type: 18:Slimline-5S (SWM) (dimmed)
Switchtype: 01:SWM (dimmed)
Tuners: Dual

Still no signal when trying to point dish. What am I missing?

First, is the mast plumb? That's important. Then set the skew and elevation. Next point it where the azimuth says. Check the 101 satellite signals first. If you are close, you should get some signal.

Dumb question, is everything plugged in, plug in the SWM set up before plugging in the Recvrs, this way it has to see it.
