OK
Ok I have a friend who is on Dish thinking about coming to Direct and I told him that I'm really enjoying Direct so far. Heck at this point I all ready like it better than Dish as well. Anyway he ask me a good question which I'm sure been asked a million times. So my friend tells me he use to be on AT&T Uverse before they moved and went to Dish. He said with AT&T Uverse HD DVR you could watch a live baseball game have something set to record at 7 pm and it will stay on the baseball game not make you switch and watch what you are recording. So I have not tired this yet so can you watch your live ball game on ESPN while the DVR is recording something on another channel without having the DVR make you switch to the show it's recording?? He said if Direct can do this that he might be switching and if not he might stay with Dish but I think he still thinking about coming to Direct.

Barring any other scheduled recordings, you're describing normal DVR behavior. The only thing you may notice is the record light comes on if he DVR was not already recording. DVR will warn of upcoming scheduled recordings that conflict with a tuner occupied by double-play use or if both tuners are needed for upcoming recordings. In that case, you'd have a choice of which shows to cancel, record or stay tuned to.

One thing I recommend is recording the shows/games/events you watch so you're not inconvenienced by an inadvertent channel change/buffer dump if the remote is bumped.

Doesn't the HR24 have two tuners so you CAN watch a different program that you are recording?

It wont make you switch. If it's 7pm, and you have a show set to record, and are watching something on the other channel, it will not interrupt your tuner and will use the other tuner to record what you have set.

Poke. How are your DVR's setup? Is your receiver changing channels on you when you have a scheduled something to record?
