HS17 issues

Had the HS 17
Installed last week.
Couple of issues.
First runs slower then hr54.
Also not recording from app?
Keeps telling me my tv is not 4k?
Have to reset unit and uncheck 720
Bizzare

Slower? That's a client issue and yes, they're a bit slower but nothing horrible, IME.

I haven't tried setting a recording from the app, so I can't help there. But if I were you, I'd uninstall the app and then reinstall it. Then set everything up for the HS17.

I assume that message is on the 4K channels. If so, try other HDMI inputs. My set has 4 HDMI inputs and only one works with 4K. I'm surprised the installer left with that message still popping up.

Reinstalled app now works perfectly.
They are sending me a new client-Hopefully helps.
I might change out HDMI cable possible issue??

I know this is nit picking but the 30 second skip is noticeably slower.
I can live with it...But it kinda sucks.

Ive been spoiled with speed of 54...
But only clients will let me watch 4k...Guess you cant have everything.

You could have stayed with the HR54. I don't know why anyone would go to the HS17.

Because they either dont want to pay another $7 a month, or dont have room to hang the stupid HR-54 behind their TV in a bedroom!

Keep the 54, add the client for the 4k set only, seeing you have to have it .... use other recvr for the rest ...

Did you not ask why would anyone go with at HS17?....The 54 is a joke of a excuse for 4k.....I have a place for a STB in my main living room, but the 54 dont output 4k so....They screw you for $7 because the 54 dont output 4k......This setup my only choice would be hiding the HR54 behind the screen in a bedroom......The 17 has its flaws, the 54 dont work with many peoples setups!
A very clear reason why to go with the HS17, over the 54.

About the only advantage I see with the HS17 over the HR54 is saving $7/month. Not being able to use additional dvrs is a huge disadvantage for me.

I went back to 30SLIP because of the delay with 30SKIP.

As for HR54 vs HS17, it's different strokes. I like not having huge set top boxes and I'm willing to live with the occasional hiccup in the HS17 system. It can actually be installed anywhere in the house and since it doesn't output to a TV, it doesn't count as a receiver for billing purposes. It can also output two 4K streams simultaneously to the clients.

For someone with two 4K sets and nothing else, the HS17 is a no brainer. And yes, I know that's an exception, but it's a point to make to those who can't possibly imagine why anyone would want one.

Yes, but by not allowing anything but clients, you are limited to the tuners in the HS17. Not a smart way to do it IMNSHO.

I don't know if they can be on the same account, but they don't work together. You would need a separate dish, if Directv would even allow it.

Exact same boat here, but with an H24. Tailgating rig requires a receiver, not a crappy client doorstop.

Nothing but clients allowed with an HS17. That's a definite downside for those that tailgate or have a second location.

Bottom line: Pros and cons apply here. Educate yourself about both and decide which works for you.
