I found the answer to my Hughes question. The answer is no, you cannot get both an HD and SD output simultaneously.

I did not cross post, and Silver Surfers' claimed answer is invisible to me on some other Forum. I am not an idiot and did not like being accused of same. Could anyone please direct me to James' alleged answer? WHAT HDTV forum?

I have a new TV coming for my downstair den and I may get another one of these boxes for it, since my antique downstairs Sony SAT-T60 is only standard def and cannot support HDMI or HD.

I'm sure it has been answered here before, but does anyone know whether the Hughes box can output HDMI or component and sandard def S video or composite at the same time?

I'm betting it can't.

As you guys know, I'm a newbie, so please be gentle. I'm sure it's been answered many times here before, but I could not find it. Does anyone know if the Hughes HR10-250 can output HDMI or component high def and standard def S video or composite at the same time? My recollection is that it cannot. Thanks.

I was thinking of getting a second box to hook up to my new TV, but it would need to feed a standard def whole house modulator, so showing HD and blanking oout the distributor does not work.

That is a cross post...There is nothing invisible. I didn't do this because I think you or anyone else is an idiot. Having multiple threads across multiple forums discussing the same thing is a waste and does nothing but clutter the board.
