Hey guys,

Last night, we had a power outage, when the power was restored, there was a spike, and then there was a metalic burning smell in the room. Well, you can guess what the victim was.

If you had to buy a new receiver tomorrow, which one would you get?

I'm only hoping that the motor is ok as well.

Mike

Uh oh…not good

Well, depending on tastes (and money) I would pick either the Coolsat 5000 or the Fortec Classic. I have both and love both of them.

The only drawback I can find right now on the Classic is the blind scan speed. The Coolsat is faster (but does miss stuff). The Fortec is faster than my Pansat 1500 :D

Fortec has a smaller remote so if you have big hands that may be a drawback.
The Coolsat has a wacky signal meter..63 is minimum and 82-93 seems to be the max

I have a few different STBs, and all have thier weakness's and strengths. So far tho, I would have to say my Fortec Mercury II is my favorite.

Bummer. Similar thing happened to my cheap chinese clone box. Left a big black spot inside, but still working.

Definitely something with blind scan if this is your only rig. Would want to probably get something with AC3 as well. Traxis 3500 is pretty good rig for the price. Has both of these features.

I hate using the channel editor in my receiver so using one of the new receivers with sd or thumb drive ports is mighty nice for rearraging sats and channels and renaming channels on the computer with channel master.

:hatsoff:

I would buy myself another Traxis DBS 3500!

I've read some great reviews on this Traxis, including the review Pete wrote, and I'm pretty much sold..

Pete are you actually missing much without the AC-3 audio.. I don't recall seeing much of interest other then PBS..

I use the DVB World USB receiver hooked up through my computer for AC3 / 4:2:2 / and HD :)

So do not really need it in a receiver, hopefully a software update will make the Traxis DBS 3500 fully AC3 compatible soon!

If I could "fully" start over:

1)STABHH120 motor instead of my SM3D12 (rated for at 1.2M but can't handle the weight <fortec>)
2) Skystar 2.3 DVB card (if I could ever find one): HD, 4.2.2 and blind scan all-in-one!!
3) Still buy Fortec Classic NA: Simple & reliable (haven't used one but would do Mercury II just for componnent inputs)
