Okay, a few months ago I replaced my Sony XBR-65X950B because of issues with the screen, and I bought a used Sony XBR-65X930D to replace it with. I had to replace the DPS board for my new used TV but now it works great! I bought it used because I wanted to keep the active shudder 3D feature as well as wanting HDR. (I honestly wish they'd make an 8K HDR TV with active 3D, and yes, I know there's no 4K 3D nor 8K 3D standard but it's upscaled and with active 3D it's upscaled COMPLETELY.) Anyways, with all the Sony 4K TVs with both HDR and 3D lack the simulated 3D feature, so for a couple months I did without, but I recently discovered some 2D to 3D HDMI converters online, and while most of the converters have been out of stock for years, I found a couple overseas still available (I just have to hook up plug adapters and lower the resolution to 1080p or lower when using the devices). The one I bought works great with the simulated 3D affect but since I have a surround sound system that when I hook up the device it doesn’t play in any form of Dolby or DTS but it downscales it to linear PCM. Granted if there aren’t any 2D to 3D HDMI converters out there that play in Dolby or DTS, I could deal with it, but I want to know if there are or were any that do or did when they were available. (I want to even know if there AT LEAST WERE any out there just so I know and even though it’s a scarce chance, I might find one somewhere.) Also be sure to tell me if you know if all of them play in PCM so I don’t go wasting my money. I also may add that none of these devices post the audio information on their listings, so I’m screwed in that matter. And if you think I’m asking this on the wrong website, recommend another one if you happen to know of any…

I have an LG BluRay player with two HDMI outputs, one dedicated to connecting to a Home Theater AVR which would allow you to bypass the 2D-3D box for the audio. In my setup, the Video HDMI goes to my OLED and the audio goes to my AVR. The AVR is programmed to use the BluRay HDMI input for audio, the OLED to use HDMI 4 for BluRay video, and the Harmony sends out the appropriate signals to switch everything to the right input.

I believe there are other players that have dual HDMI outputs. Or, if you are switching HDMI signals with your AVR, couldn’t you place the 2D-3D convertor between the TV and the AVR? Or, is there a special signal in the 3D disc that wouldn’t get passed by the AVR?

Now that many TVs are capable of eARC, finding dual-output players is getting to be an expensive proposition. You have to step up to the UltraHD players in the $250 price range. There you have to be careful as not all of those support 3D anymore. Often you have to choose between 3D (older models) and DolbyVision (latest models). Of course if you're using a 2016 model TV, DolbyVision isn't a feature you're going to chase after. This is one of those three choices, pick two propositions.

Finding 3D discs is getting harder and harder. 2021 saw perhaps seven theatrical releases (a couple of them were anaglyph conversions) and some documentaries after only eight total releases in 2020.

Dune 3D is supposed to be released tomorrow and everyone is hanging on for Avatar 2 in December.

I suppose that could work. I do happen to have a region-free Sony X800 4K Blu-ray player that also includes 3D (which I could use when I want to use true 3D and not simulated 3D), and like you said it has two outputs so I could bypass it in that sense.. But I still wonder about when I connect the converter to other devices. My best assumption is that the audio thing is the same on all the 2D-3D HDMI converters. I will buy the other device I mentioned when I have some extra money and take a chance. If that one doesn't output Dolby or DTS and just PCM, I'll just go with that none of them do such audio. If anyone has any more answers or a website recommendation of where to ask this question, I'm all ears.

Not much help on AVS Forum but I thought I'd try once more with the 3D Bee on 3d-bee.com and to my surprise it passes through Dolby and DTS, even 7.1 audio! Also has multiple 3D options!
