I read where someone replaced the cover on the BSC621-2 LNB with a clear plastic cover and improved the signal strength by doing so.

I too have a BSC621-2 which I am going to install on my big dish. I'm curious as to what exactly makes a better cover? And what exactly makes the cover which comes with the BSC621-2 not as good as clear plastic?

Is it that the plastic is clear?

Or that it is a different type of plastic?

Or that the clear plastic it is more thin?

I wonder if doing this would improve signal strength with other LNB's?

For my BSC621-2, could I not use the stock cover, but instead just wrap clear plastic from a zip lock bag over the end and hold it in place with a rubber band or tie wrap? Perhaps do this with my other LNB's?

I dont know if its true or not because I had a cap on my C-Band LNBF and it popped off so now there is no cap. Signal stayed the same

The best thing to do is take the cap off and see if the signal improves. As for the ziplock bag technique, you have to make sure you poke some pinholes in the bag or condensation on the inside of the bag will be a problem.
