I cancelled the install Monday because it was raining hard and it was getting dark. Today, tech showed up but without equipment for international programming that I added to my on-line order over the phone LAST WEEK! Now install scheduled for Friday. The tech today first said that with the SWM8 that 95 would be connected to a legacy port. I told him it was my understanding that it was a flex port connection. He insisted that he was correct(?) About the time he left, he stated that even with Choice Ultimate HD and the 95 bird, that it would be a one dish solution. Since I never heard of this on the forums or on-line retailers, I asked him how long that particular dish has been availabile and said for 2 to 3 months he had been installing them. Anyone have links to info on this new superflex dish or is it a stealth dish?

I heard they were going to move the international channels to 110, I think it was. Perhaps they already have. I don't think there is a dish that can get the hd channels and the 95 satellite.

Int'l is still on 95 right now...it might be hard to nmove them to 110 as 95W has 7 TP's they're using and 110 only has 3

you will get 2 dishes. A slimline 3 or 5 and a 95W dish. The tech I think is right about the legacy port. Flex is if you are using a 6x8 multiswitch which would require 2 lines to the DVR...SWM is only one line

Re: flex vs. legacy, you are correct - the flex ports are input ports on the SWM8 for 72/95 sats - the legacy ports are output ports on the module for older IRDs that don't do SWM.

And in any case, there is no dish that gets 99/103 (the Ka band HD sats) that also get 95 - the only dish D* offer that gets 95 is the International 101/95 combo dish.

I think your installer is confused, to put it mildly.

The Slimline SL5 dish looks like an additional LNB could be added to get 95. But, this was never offered, probably due to the difficulty in getting it aligned and/or too weak of a signal.

The tech advised that for 95 international programming that an additional lnbf is added to the lnbf array. Also there is no programming on 119 for this DMA except maybe Spanish channels which I am not subbed to. I'll post what's installed Friday afternoon.

Hmm, maybe they are using a new lnb on the Slimline that most of us haven't heard about. There is a spot there where one could be added. Since your local sd channels are on 101, you will get an sl3 lnb on your Slimline.

nothing as of right now

119 has some small city locals and spanish channels. Since your loc is STL the SD locals are on 101

Well, if he shows up Friday, post pics, because I want to see this affair. If he does like I think I'm expecting the FSS linear LNB off the World Direct Dish to be duct taped and zip-tied onto the Slimline LNB assembly arm. :-) And if it works reliably, well, kudos to the guy.

Not One Dish

Another contract installer showed up yesterday with the International Dish and a SL3 Slim Line Dish and a WB68. Fortunately I had 4 spare outside coax runs into my utility/telecom room and had already installed 5 coax runs from the outside switch location to the dish locations. Since I had "purchased" an HR24-500 I was a bit perturbed when I opened the box and there were no BBCs. I figured oh well I'll buy a couple on-line. Anyway, when the installer was about to leave, I gave him a 20 buck tip. He subsequently went to his trunk and brought back a couple of BBCs. I now have 2 HR24s activated. :D The other contract installer obviously majored in Bovine Scatology (BS). Of note was DirecTV sent out a couple company of installers late Monday but it was getting dark and raining hard so I cancelled but they did not get the word before arriving. They did indicate that they were going to use a SWM8. When a contract installer showed up Wednesday, he did not have the international equipment but indicated that he would need 2 coax runs into the house for the HR24 which indicates that he too was going to use a 6X8 switch which is what the contract installer used yesterday. I can only conclude that DTV does not care how difficult the install will be if it's contracted. I am sure that I am one of the few folks that had so many cables pre-run.

cool. Glad you're all up and running :)
And I assume the international channels you wanted are working fine too?

Also in regards to the BBC's from older posts if you needed them D* would have sent them out for free

I'm going to be upgrading to HD on the 14th and I already have 4 lines from the existing dish (an old Phase III) so I'm ready if they want to do that too.....but I hope they do a SWM to help me get rid of some cabling coming off the roof (right now 9 cables.....2 from motorized FTA seup, 2 from 2nd motorized FTA setup, 1 from antenna and 4 from D*)

SWM8

Well I suppose it depends on how many tuners you have and who does the install. My initial order was for 3 tuners (1 for D16 and 2 for an HR24). Also based on my experience, if the installer is a contractor, then it's likely to be a WB68. I actually have 8 coax runs coming into my utility/telecom room. 1 for OTA GS2000A, 1 for OTA CM4248 w/rotor, 1 for 2 FTA dishes (97 & 101), 1 CATV (internet), & 4 for DirecTV. International programming is fine but the installer had to call for DirecTV to activate even though a CSR last week Wed. advised "everything was taken care of." Hope you get your SWM8. I got my sniper software looking at Ebay SWM8s to reduce my DTV coax runs to 2 (I don't want to use a splitter due to signal attenuation which also reduces the Eb/No or so called Signal Quality).

Tuner count has nothing to do with if you get SWM any longer. If you are doing an upgrade you will get the Legacy setup with 4 lines from the dish and a 6x8 if you require it. If you upgrade to MRV you will get SWM but it may be with a SWM8 if you have old non SWM receivers, and that still requires 4 lines from the dish. Untill very recently if you were a new customer wanting international channels you got the Legacy system. Now they are starting to use the SWM8 to be able to do MRV for these customers.

New customers who order an HDDVR will get a SWM system. If you only order 1 HD receiver you will get a legacy setup. So if you ordered just 1 HD receiver and 3 STD's you will get four lines from the dish.

People that are moving even if they have SWM compatable equipment will still get a Legacy setup sometimes. Even if the had SWM before.

The only variable is if the Tech decides to use SWM even if it is not on the work order. I have used a SWM setup on customers that only ordered SD DVR's if getting a second line to the receiver was going to be difficult or impossible.

well hopefully my tech sets up a SWM....I have enough cables running into the house...would like to remove some ;)

"Untill very recently if you were a new customer wanting international channels you got the Legacy system." I was a new customer as of 2 days ago and am getting a international package on 95 and got a WB68. "New customers who order an HDDVR will get a SWM system." I also ordered and received an HDDVR and got the WB68.
